I checked the **Oct. 6 Game 3 schedule, Game 1–2 results, confirmed starters, 2026 regular-season pitching numbers, recent form, and the way both series have developed through two games**. ([MLB.com][1]) ([MLB.com][2])
## My best Game 3 predictions
| # | Time (ET) | Matchup | Series | My predicted score | Pick |
| - | ----------- | ------------- | ------------- | ---------------------: | ---------- |
| 1 | **6:00 PM** | **LAD @ ATL** | 1–1 | **Dodgers 3–2 Braves** | ? **LAD** |
| 2 | **9:30 PM** | **MIL @ SD** | MIL leads 2–0 | **Brewers 2–4 Padres** | ? **SD** |

# 1. Dodgers @ Braves — **Dodgers 3–2 Braves**
### Pitching matchup: Yoshinobu Yamamoto vs. Chris Sale
This is easily one of the best pitching matchups of the entire Division Series.
**Yoshinobu Yamamoto** had an outstanding 2026 regular season:
* **14–9**
* **2.53 ERA**
* **0.87 WHIP**
* **182 strikeouts**
* **185 innings**
* 28 starts
His 0.87 WHIP ranked **second among qualified MLB starters**, and he finished with a 2.53 ERA. He also enters the postseason with an exceptional career playoff record: **7–1, 2.25 ERA and 0.84 WHIP**. ([MLB.com][3]) ([MLB.com][4])
That's a major reason I'm giving Los Angeles the edge despite Atlanta having home field.
**Chris Sale** is just as intimidating:
* **14–9**
* **2.16 ERA**
* **200 strikeouts**
* MLB's **third-best ERA**
* **1.96 ERA over his final 24 regular-season starts**
Sale also shut out the Dodgers on five hits on Aug. 27, so Los Angeles has already seen how difficult this matchup can be. ([MLB.com][5])
### What changed after Games 1 and 2?
The series is now **1–1**, but the two games have been quite different.
Los Angeles won Game 1 **5–3**, but Atlanta came back with a **3–2 victory in Game 2**. ([MLB.com][1])
Game 2 exposed an interesting issue for the Dodgers.
Blake Snell managed only **3? innings**, throwing 90 pitches while walking five. That forced Los Angeles to use its bullpen for more than six innings. ([?? ???][6])
The good news for the Dodgers is that **Yamamoto changes the equation completely**.
If Yamamoto gives them six or seven strong innings, Los Angeles shouldn't need another bullpen-heavy game. That is particularly important in a postseason series where Atlanta has already shown a willingness to use its bullpen aggressively.
### Atlanta's advantage
The Braves now return home to Truist Park after splitting the first two games.
Michael Harris II was a major factor in Game 2, collecting three hits and driving in the go-ahead run as Atlanta's bullpen held the Dodgers to two runs. ([ajc][7])
The Braves' bullpen strategy has also worked extremely well. Atlanta used a bullpen game in Game 2, with Ray Kerr and Didier Fuentes playing particularly important roles. ([MLB.com][8])
But Game 3 is different.
Atlanta is finally putting **Chris Sale** on the mound.
That gives the Braves a legitimate ace against Yamamoto rather than another bullpen-oriented approach.
### Why I still pick the Dodgers
This is extremely close.
The Braves have:
* home field
* Sale
* momentum from winning Game 2
* a strong bullpen
* an offense that has started creating pressure on the Dodgers
But I think **Yamamoto is the decisive factor**.
The Dodgers' regular-season offensive profile was slightly better overall: about **4.9 runs/game compared with Atlanta's 4.6**, while both clubs hit 204 home runs. ([FOX Sports][9])
More importantly, Los Angeles desperately needs to avoid falling behind 2–1.
I expect a low-scoring game in which both starters pitch effectively, with the difference coming from one or two late scoring opportunities.
### ? My score
**Dodgers 3 – 2 Braves**
My expected game pattern:
**Yamamoto 6+ strong innings ? close game ? Dodgers manufacture a late run ? bullpen closes it.**
**Confidence: LAD ~54% / ATL ~46%**
This is the closer of the two Game 3s.

# 2. Brewers @ Padres — **Brewers 2–4 Padres**
### Pitching matchup: Dustin May vs. Nick Pivetta
This matchup is fascinating because the **overall season numbers strongly favor Pivetta**, while the **head-to-head history favors May**.
### Dustin May
May's 2026 overall numbers:
* **7–9**
* **4.70 ERA**
* **144 strikeouts**
Those numbers don't look particularly impressive.
He was also inconsistent after joining Milwaukee, going **2–2 with a 5.65 ERA** in 10 starts for the Brewers. Home runs were a significant problem during that stretch. ([Reuters][10])
But there's a huge counterpoint:
**May has been extremely good against San Diego.**
He faced the Padres three times this season and went **1–1 with a 1.23 ERA over 22 innings**. ([Reuters][10])
So I don't expect San Diego to simply overwhelm him.
### Nick Pivetta
Pivetta is the reason I'm leaning strongly toward San Diego.
He finished 2026 at:
* **3–2**
* **2.86 ERA**
* **42 strikeouts**
More importantly, after returning from his elbow injury, he was excellent.
In September:
**2–0, 1.45 ERA in four starts.**
He also allowed only one run in his Wild Card Series start against the Cubs. ([Reuters][10])
MLB currently lists Pivetta as the Padres' Game 3 starter with May opposite him. ([MLB.com][11])
### The biggest factor: San Diego's situation
The Padres are in a very different position from the Brewers.
Milwaukee has a **2–0 series lead** after winning both games at home.
Game 2 was particularly painful for San Diego.
The Padres led **3–2 going into the ninth**, but Milwaukee scored twice with two outs to win **4–3**. Jackson Chourio delivered the walk-off two-run single against Mason Miller. ([Reuters][12])
That means San Diego is now essentially playing with its season on the line.
There is no tomorrow for the Padres if Milwaukee wins Game 3.
And now the series moves to **Petco Park**.
### Why I expect a San Diego response
San Diego actually played well enough to win Game 2.
The Padres held a lead into the ninth and limited Milwaukee to only **five hits**. Milwaukee also benefited from San Diego errors and some critical late-game walks. ([Reuters][12])
The Brewers are certainly capable of winning this game, especially considering their remarkable **103-win regular season** and their ability to generate late-inning offense.
But I don't think San Diego gets swept.
Pivetta's September form, the move to Petco Park, and the Padres' elimination-level urgency all point toward a much better performance.
The Padres also entered the postseason having won **17 of their final 20 regular-season games**, so their recent underlying form was excellent even though Milwaukee has now taken the first two games. ([Reuters][10])
### ? My score
**Brewers 2 – 4 Padres**
I expect:
* May keeps Milwaukee in the game early.
* Pivetta gives San Diego a strong start.
* Padres' offense gradually breaks through.
* San Diego's bullpen finishes the job.
**Confidence: SD ~62% / MIL ~38%**
---
# ? My Game 3 outlook
| Game | My Pick | Score | Confidence | Main reason |
| ------------- | -------------- | ------: | ---------: | ---------------------------------------------------- |
| **LAD @ ATL** | ? **Dodgers** | **3–2** | ~54% | Yamamoto's elite profile + Dodgers' offensive upside |
| **MIL @ SD** | ? **Padres** | **4–2** | ~62% | Pivetta + Petco + elimination urgency |
### My strongest prediction
**Padres 4–2 Brewers**
I think this is the game where the team facing elimination finally pushes back.
The **Dodgers–Braves game is much more of a coin flip**. Sale vs. Yamamoto could easily turn into a 2–1 or 3–2 game either way.
The key difference is that I see **San Diego having the stronger situational advantage**, while Los Angeles has the stronger starting-pitching advantage.
And one important note: **both Game 3s are in the evening ET — Dodgers/Braves at 6:00 PM and Brewers/Padres at 9:30 PM.** ([MLB.com][13])
